The Pilot

I can't launch a new blog without starting at the very beginning...a very good place to start! So I turned on The Pilot. First thought is oh my god that is not what Stars Hollow looks like, obviously they changed the set when the success of the show took off. The town is supposed to be minuscule and the opening scene features a street that is Gigantic and never seen again.

The fact that the show opens on a convo between Lorelai and Luke is nothing short of perfect. The most perfect example of accidental foreshadowing. As many of you probably know: Luke's character was originally written to be a woman and was only supposed to be featured in six episodes. What would the girls be without their handyman, sarcastic teddy bear of Luke Danes? Thank goodness Amy Sherman-Palladino cast Scott Patterson and saw reason to leave him involved.

The amount of character development that takes place in this one episode is unreal. However, I guess with all of the fast talking it should be expected. The agreement between Lorelai and her parents sets the stage for seven seasons. The show wouldn't reach half the fans that it does if it wasn't for the strained parent-daughter relationship. The miracle of it all is the beautiful and deep relationship of Rory and  Lorelai. The other miracle is that Kelly Bishop looks older in this pilot than she does in the series finale.

The only bad part of this episode is Sookie's clumsiness. Thankfully that gets cut out as the season goes along. It's unrealistic because she never would have become a chef if she didn't know how to use pot holders.

Pointless facts:
Crazy Carrie who is friends withLukes sister Liz and obsessed with Luke in later seasons is seen as a teacher in Stars Hollow High.
Lane calls Mrs. Kim mom in the pilot but mama in every other episode.
They eat SALAD at Luke's.

Fav Fast Talking Moment:
Lane to Rory "Okay there's academic-minded and then there's Amish!"
